10/10 - Beyond my expectations Last Maybe the most pleasant surprise, the lasts fit my mismatched feet well. I like the narrow heel and the wider forefoot. Sizing advice from Andres was spot-on. The almond shape looks slim, even with the double row stitching. The footbed is comfortable with a bit more arch support than other boots in my collection. The slightly taller heel height feels good. Construction Excellent. Stitching is first class. Choice of materials is the same. While I’d prefer a partially gusseted tongue, other touches like roughout inside at the heel show attention to detail. I’m a fan of the orange lining. Style At 930g, these are on the heavy side. They are also taller. The waxy suede and lugged sole make them good for adventuring. They thrive in the wet. Speedhooks fit the classic rugged style. Comfort Nice! Like with other new boots, I was expecting to shorten my daily urban fitness walk. Turns out it wasn’t necessary. Impressive. Not even a little heel slip. Just a little friction in the forefoot behind the toecap on the inside. So count me as a fan. The Tukano is a fine boot.

Maryam Salvia Vibram Eton

Wanes (pronounced Wah'-nes) boots from Colombian boot maker Bordon. Ordered in late April and received in September. US$314 with free shipping. Uppers in a lightly waxed reversed (nubuck?) leather from Maryam tannery that Bordon calls Salvia. 1.6-1.8 thick and with very little nap, it is softer than the waxed suede Bordon uses. Attractive gray-green shade. Largely handmade using stitchdown construction with a minimum of synthetic materials. Insole and midsole are Colombian veg-tanned leather. Cork filling. Leather stack heels. leather heel counter and both a steel and leather shank. A pronounced bow in the waist of the outsole. Given the leather shank, I expect good arch support. Haven’t yet confirmed, however. Last is the same as Bordon’s Tukano boots. Almond shape with good room in the forefoot. Structured plain toe. 5 eyelets and 2 speed hooks. Gusseted tongue. Partially lined with Bordon’s signature orange lining leather. Vibram Eaton outsole. Overall, high quality stitching and workmanship. The Wanes are well built and fall on the rugged side of the fashion spectrum. With a traditional artisanal approach and no-compromise materials selection, Bordon is an interesting brand making unique boots at a relatively low cost. Definitely worth checking out.
