Fits true to brannock size, has a firm handshake fit around the feet, without pushing the toes in (there is not enough room for toe splay with movements/bending, but the toes sit in the boots naturally).

Built on the same last as Danner's Marine Expeditionary Boot, the 610 last is meant to run snug in the heel and wide in the forefoot. According to Danner, it gives a little more of a sneaker feel and fit, which I imagine is because boots built on the 610 last are made to accommodate a full length insert (whereas boots on the 650 last like the Acadia are built by Danner without an insert in mind). Being a size 9.5D brannock, I've never needed a wide width shoe or boot, but as the side-zip Stalwart boots are discontinued and fairly rare, I had to get them in 9.5 EE instead of a D width. EE width for Danner is basically W or single E if you're comparing the fit to other brands. So think of them as one width up, not two. Before they were delivered, I was thinking they might be a little wide, so I bought some 8-9 oz vegetable tanned leather, approximately 4mm thick, that I could cut into inserts. While I did end up doing that, my initial try-on of these boots made it feel like I didn't need to take up any more volume or width at all. They felt perfectly comfortable, and the lace-to-toe design likely helped with making them feel that way. With the leather insoles that I cut out, the boots really seem to fit the same, but I'm leaving them in there because I enjoy leather and it'll mold to my foot. The inserts went directly onto the footbeds of the boots, then the Polyurethane Danner inserts went on top of the leather. I can't say whether a regular width would have fit me better since I couldn't try any other sizes on. I can say that I have zero complaints about the fit of these EE width boots, however. I have reviewed the Danner Acadia fit as well, and it's actually surprising at how much wider a boot like the Stalwart can be, yet still fit firmly and not feel clunky (comparison pictured). Ultimately, if you have a foot with low volume or are leaning toward a C width instead of E (both of which are not the case for me), I would be comfortable saying that the boot fits true to size, even if you have the same brannock size as myself. If you have more volume and a wider foot, yet still D or maybe E width, the EE width is likely the right choice. From what I know of Danner, their lasts run on the narrower side in general, so going up in width may just feel normal to your feet.

Cemmos Foot measurement: 9.5 DOak Street Boots | Trench Boot | Elston LastSize Reviewed: US 9.5Length: Perfect

The Oak Street Bootmakers' Trench boot uses the Elston last, which is purposely built with extra room to allow for foot expansion from swelling. Trying on the boots, they may feel too wide if your foot has not yet swelled up from standing and working through the day. Should be a glove fit after feet have expanded. I believe most people would be unable to downsize from their brannock sizing, specifically because of the length. A 9.5D Trench boot fits my 9.5D feet really well, with the heel being slightly roomier than necessary for me. My big toe is near the end of the boot, but doesn't push up against the front. As the boots have a low profile toe (as in, no bump toe), some people find that their big toe grazes against the top of the boot. This is especially important to note if trying to downsize below your brannock length.

Military issued circa 2010. Fits to brannock size (9.5 Regular boots, i.e. D or Medium width). I don't recall ever having fit issues or a break in period with these, worn in Afghanistan for 6 months. These days I prefer a boot with either a Goodyear welt or stitchdown construction, because they extend the sole beyond the foot to create a more stable platform.

Thursday Captain boots seem to have more of a sneaker fit and feel compared to traditional boots. Snug at a half size down but not tight. I would likely opt for brannock sizing if given the choice. Socks would make a big difference and is something to keep in mind.
