Very thick leather quarters, feels nice and secure around the ankles. The vamp leather is slightly lighter and makes for easier break in and feels more supple. The 2030 last is perfect length and the ball of my foot fits perfectly on the widest part of the footbed. The almond toe shape means that your big toe and small toe are slightly pushed towards the middle of your foot. The result is that the small toe rubs and starts to feel a bit tight after several hours. The last does have good volume for high instep and holds the heel pretty well.

The CXL was stiff when new, I conditioned it twice in the first couple months. Since it’s black I wasn’t concerned with darkening it. The leather squeaked some when new but is better now that it’s broken in. The quarters are not too thick and feel nice and light around the ankle. The vamp is heavier weight leather and takes a bit to break in. The right side footbed also squeaks some, but has got quieter the more I wear them. The fit is better than the 2030 but not perfect. There’s more room for your big toe, but the small toe still gets pinched a little. This may reduce significantly once the boots are more broken in. Overall I prefer this over the 2030 last. The toe is just a bit more round, but the look is still sleek.

I was surprised by how robust these boots were. They are noticeably heavier than a standard service boot. The leather is uniformly heavier weight in the quarters and the vamp, and the midsole is thicker than any of my service boots. Twice as thick as some, about 6mm. These actually require a real break in period. The 2030 last is just like any other Viberg on the 2030, it’s just a bit tight on the small toe after a few hours of wear. Not perfect, but the boots are still comfortable and hold your foot well. Since the leather is thick and smooth side in, the leather squeaks when new. I did need kilties, or false tongues to lace them more easily. Something that’s not a problem on any of my Viberg service boots.

These were originally from 2019, the CXL is thick plus the lining makes these feel very robust. It feels really nice and secure around the ankles. They definitely need some breaking in. The smaller eyelets and hooks actually feel more secure than the regular 7 large eyelets, and it gives the boots a different look. I like the older style contoured heel pad, it does need some breaking in but feels better than the newer flatter heel pads. And I like the ridgeway sole, I prefer it over the Dainite stud sole. I feel it has more grip but without the bulk of a commando sole. It’s only a little bit more thicker than a Dainite stud. The 1035 has a bit more room than a 2030 but it’s not perfect, still a little tight on the small toe. Especially this fully lined thick CXL boot.

These are from 2018 and are the older style 2030 last. They noticeably have a flatter toe profile and a rounder heel profile. They look better than the newer 2030 service boots. If you find a used older pair, they’re worth getting. These fit me nicely, the black waxed flesh is very cool. The leather is slightly heavier weight than some newer CXL service boots. These also have the older style contoured heel pad, which I prefer. The heel pad requires a little break in, but feels great in these broken in boots. The 2030 last pinches the small toe a little, so it’s not a perfect fit, but fits great on the rest of the foot. Since this pair is my most worn, the small toe pinch is a bit less noticeable. Overall my foot fits very nicely in this boot.

Perhaps my favorite boot. Even though the D width is a bit snug around my ball and instep, it actually has good toe room, and allows my toes to spread decently. However, I think 9.5E would be perfect! This has more arch than typical boots, and you may feel it initially, but it quickly becomes unnoticeable. These boots honestly do not require that much break in. The last has an anatomical shape and fits snugly around the foot. It’s meant to worn and and walked in. I love the shape of the toe box and the fully gusset tongue. You can custom build this through Bakers as a bounty hunter, and the options are almost endless. The double row stitchdown is a bit bulky and may be bothersome if you drive a smaller car and especially if you drive with a clutch.

I tried, 9.5D-my foot wouldn’t even go in. I tried 10D, was way too long and still tight on the toes. I was sized by Baker’s as 9.5EE and that’s the proper size for the MP. They fit nice and secure around my forefoot, not tight. But a bit loose around the heel and ankle. I believe this is common with Barrie based lasts that are wide. They fit in width and length, but the boot overall is not a perfect fit. I prefer the Whites 55 semi dress/bounty hunter last. The thing I like least is how bulbous the structured captoe looks in EE width. Not as nice as the pictures of D width boots. It is overall a very well made and robust boot, and easy on the feet.
