1460 Lace Up Boots
✕
paws and boots-1022 Foot measurement: 7 EEESize Reviewed: US 7.0I started wearing Doc Martens about 12 years ago, before graduating to hand-crafted boots. Although I have narrow ankles and a wide vamp with flat feet and other issues, the Docs fit well without any pinching. The boots are roomy enough in the walls and toe box to accommodate prescription orthotics.

Doc Martens fit well in the toe box and does not cause any slipping in the heels. Break in of about ten pairs of Doc Martens has been virtually pain-free, with my only experience having been with a pair of Combs Crazy Horse Casual Boots, in which the shafts rubbed and cut into my ankles until the leather softened after a handful of wears.

This was my first purchase of quality handcrafted boots. The Grant Stone Boots far exceed the price point in quality. They made beautiful boots and deliver boots that arrive to the customer in excellent condition. There were no loose threads or nicks in the leather. The Brass Boots came with 2 pairs of waxed boot laces; however, I think this hardy boot looks best with leather laces. Being a person of small stature at 5ft 3in tall and slender, the boots felt extremely clunky on my feet. The Brass Boots are very roomy in the toe box and have high walls that easily accommodated my prescription orthotics. There were no tight areas or rubbing in any areas. Maybe I should have sized down to a 6 EEE in order to have better control of the boots while walking in a normal gait. On the other hand, they may have been too small. I didn't hold on to them long enough to determine whether I would ultimately get comfortable with the weight of the boots and come to love them. Aesthetically, I love the Brass Boots with the Commando Soles. They are just too heavy.

The size is accurate at 6.5; however, because the walls of the toe box are not as high as the Brass Boots, I did need to massage a little Safir Conditioner on the underside and use a stretcher to loosen the leather, so that it was not digging into the bunion on my RIGHT Foot. This was not necessary on the Diesel Sky Reverse Kudu or Jungle Kangaroo boots, which fit looser in the toe box - maybe because of the difference in leathers.

Oak Street Bootmakers boots fit me perfectly in length and the only width issue I experienced was in my cap Toe Trench Boots in the less forgiving Nemesi Cotto leather. In that boot, it was a bit tight across the bunion on my RIGHT foot, and I had to stretch the leather a little by using a stretcher for a few days only in the area. Overall, there is virtually no break-in required with Oak Street Bootmakers Trench Boots, and there is room for my orthotics. There were no QC issues visible with this pair of Trench Boots in Indigo Roughout.

I was so pleased when I found that the Oak Street Bootmakers fit my feet and orthotics, that I have since purchased a total of three pairs. First, I recommend that the boots are purchased on sale, because there will most likely be some QC issues (loose threads, deep cuts or nicks, evidence of previous light wear). I learned that they only craft one size 7 in the Limited Releases so, if you like something then, go ahead and buy it at regular price or keep watching the website to try to catch it before your size 7 pair is sold. The boots are comfortable right out of the box or require very little break-in. It was recommended that I first break-in the boots without inserting my orthotics so that the leather forms to my feet. I wear a pair of Travel Sox and a pair of CHUPs, and have experienced only minor discomfort of walking on a hard surface, during the break in process. Other than that, I am so looking forward to the new Limited Releases to find my next pair of Oak Street Boots.
