405 I struggled between the 8 and 8.5 EEE and ended up going 8.5. For a few days I thought it was a mistake as it felt too roomy. I played with socks and even putting a very thin insole on and that helped. Then the other day o wore them after a long walk and they felt snug (more swollen foot). So this seems the right size for me

The wide alden lasts are a mixed bag they seem to add alot of length which pushed me up a half size while running narrow really need a 4E option they don't make.

My feet are about 9.25E -- 9.25EE in Alden shop's brannock device. Indy boot is wide enough in the forefoot so 9D works for me with relatively thin socks.

Perfect fit overall. The D width on these feels wider and more generous than an average D width shoe, closer to an E width. Very little break in mostly on the shaft. The neocork sole feels very comfortable from the first wear.

Leather is nice, no loose grain. One or two loose threads. Everything else is solid. Left boot sometimes slightly rubs left big toe, otherwise great fit.

Fit was good initially, however the chromexcel leather does stretch. My feet began to go over the welts on the lateral side of the boots. I should have went down from brannock 1/2 size instead of 1 full size. In addition, the laces almost touch when they are laced up, I have about 1/2-3/4 of an inch left. The weight of the boot is perfect. The leather of the boot in terms of quality is also near perfect. Expensive !! Despite the flaws I think the boot is a great boot and would buy them again in a larger size.

The best Indy Boot in my opinion. I go down a half size from brannock and the width and heel are perfect. The length is just a tad long which is why some people prefer to go down a full size for Alden Trubalance. I could make an 8E work for sure!

I use these as daily shoes to and from the office and around town. They get a little off-road action, but not much. My right foot is larger, so I go off that. Just a little short and slightly wide. The left foot is perfect. Overall the best for me on the Trubalance last.

Alden Indy 405 Calfskin.

Beautiful, very comfortable, and overall solid construction and materials. I use 8D in all of my Goodyear Welt Boots. I currently have: -Red Wing Iron Ranger 8111 feels great in the heel and ball of my feet. The amber harness has molded to my feet beautifully. -Wolverine 1000 Mile that feels Ok, not very impressed with the fit, in my feet anyway. I feel good heel support, roomy in the toe box but a bit tight in the vamp. -Thursday Captain and Diplomat are very comfortable and I just love the way those fit. The Captain has more of a slick design. -Red Wing Beckman 9011, beautiful boots, very comfortable even though the heel slips a little bit. Good arch support and my toes move freely. -Viberg Service boots 2030 last. I just got this boot less than a month ago, I had to go downsizing to a 7.5 (this last comes in E). These boots fit very well, a little snug but the more I use them the better they feel. I use medium-weight socks with all my boots. Sometimes I prefer to use thinner socks with my Thursday Captain as well as with my Viberg Service boots. When I picked the size for my Alden Indy 405, I had to go deep into the web... I don't have access to a store to try them on, so I researched thoroughly! After even talking to a very cool guy at the Alden San Francisco store (via phone) I decided to go with 8D. These feel good, the Truebalance last is generous at the toe box, and because I was not used to that, at the beginning it felt strange. Now, I understand that this is the main benefit of Trubalance last... these boots are comfy. I can stand up all day long, and the arch support is amazing. Could I go down a half size down? Probably. I might try a pair in 7.5 just to find peace of mind, but the size 8D is good for me. I measure 8.5 in my right foot and 9 in my left one, this is Brannock device measurements. So it makes sense using the general rule of going a half size down. Lastly, both the heel and ball of my feet are in the correct place in all of my boots. No matter the toe box space in the front of the boots or the width, the most important indicative, for me, is the heel and ball of my feet. I hope this is helpful.

Light brown calf. These are too big for me. If I could do it again, I'd go a full size smaller. When I lace these up the uppers are touching at the top speed hook. Moc stitching is crooked. These don't pop up in EEE sizes very often, so I live with it.

Watch my review on my YouTube Bootlosophy Channel: This is the 403 model of the Alden Indy boot in brown Chromexcel. It truly feels like the history of Alden - and their experience in manufacturing orthopaedic shoes. The arch support and overall comfort is terrific. While essentially a moc toe, it is of course, a "mock" moc toe in that the stitching is form rather than function and the side walls are sleek rather than straight up like a Red Wing moc toe. Yet still, because of the wide last, there is a roomy toe box for comfort that looks sleek. The Chromexcel used is a full 2mm thick, and fully leather-lined, so is a little over 3mm thick around your foot but very supple, supportive and comfortable. I bought these true-to-size after some internet reviews but I think I could easily have gone a half size down. At 8.5D instead of 8D they fit, but are not as "secure" around my foot. I'm not swimming in them, but a little more snug would have been good so that I don't have to wear thick boot socks with them. But despite a half size too large, the fit in this Trubalance last does lock in around the heel and is wide at the ball of the foot, ending with a rounded toe. Just the way I like it actually because I'm not a fan of those almond toe lasts that try to be too sleek and are tight around the toes. The comfort is down to the last and the bottoming - leather and cork in the midsole and filler, shank, cantilever arch on the inside of the boot, and the Thomas s-shaped heel pushes support under the arch. I've seen complaints about "recent" quality control, but these look really well made - no loose stitches, no wheeling at the stitching, leather was great with no inordinate creasing All in all, a great boot, and if I had another chance I'd buy it again, but a half size down.

The boots are comfortable and supportive. I am only able to wear them with smart wool socks with no cushion. If I wear thicker socks, the top of my left foot feels pressure.

Not a fan of the trubalance last as it is unnecessarily wide for me. Almost wish I had sized down to an 10.5C from my measured 11D. Heavy socks help. Comfortable boot just a bit too much volume.

perfect fit out of the box. no break in or pain. very good arch support. the qc is a little bit dodgy with a small hole on the heel of the boot where stitching is, and the moc toe stitching is not centered perfectly on the right shoe but regardless they are still my favourite boots

Feels a little generous on my left foot. Feels a lot snugger on my right. My right foot has more volume in width and in the instep. Feels sloppy at times if I wear thin socks. My right pinky toe feels pinched at times, which might be due toe splay. A 1/2 size down from my arch length was the way to go. I was originally sized at 9 E or my heel to toe length.

Decent fit and break in wasn't too bad. I originally ordered 12.5D, which is 1/2 down for me, but the after getting a call from the retailer, I followed their guidance and changed to a 12D. They are fairly roomy at a full size down. Very comfortable with medium or thicker weight socks. After a few brief wears inside, I noted a cut in the leather near an eyelet, obviously from a knife blade. Retailer and Alden rep were both rather dismissive. The cut has not been a structural issue and hasn't worsened. I also noted one heel has a flat spot from being poorly ground to shape. After about 2 months, the binding at the bottom of the quarter, near the vamp and bottom eyelet, started coming apart where the stitching is coming out. Now, At 10 months, the lug sole is separating from the midsole in several spots. I've worn these for light work/projects, hiking & camping, and sometimes just a casual boot for running around town. This was my second pair of "quality" footwear. I was disappointed in the QC and customer service. In essence, I was sold a factory second at full price. I di like the boots, and the fit is pretty good. QC and customer service were unacceptable, given the price.

Tried on quickly at John Helmer in PDX. Felt very accommodating on the width, and perfect on the length. I also tried on the 11, but ultimately felt like it was just a touch narrow, especially if you end up walking in it for any amount of time.

This is my best fitting shoe. The true balance last fits my foot well, especially the wide toe box. I would say my 5th toe probably could use a little more room, but now that I have worn them for 8 years they are so freaking great. I originally ordered the 11.5 E and it was way too long. I have heard that aldens add length when you request additional width. So that might be why I had to go down to a 11 E.

I got these boots used from eBay so when I first wore them. They felt weird because there was an existing footprint. It only took a week of daily wear before they felt like my own shoes and not a strangers. The shoes are comfortable with room to wiggle my toes while my heel is locked in place. The shoes are comfortable to stand in, but I do feel everything when i take a step.

My first Indy boot and it does not disappoint. Incredibly comfortable and I can wear them all day. I could probably sleep in them honestly. A touch wider than say a Barrie last but the Trubalance last is just a great one. I have flattish feet and this really works for me in a 10.5D.

One of the classic boots that exists in this world of ours, the Alden Indy 405 boot is the original (even if it's been upgraded to have a leather lining instead of canvas over the last 3-4 decades). The Horween Brown Legacy leather is fantastic, rugged stuff—it takes nicks and scratches eagerly but quite handsomely. The Alden neocork sole—while I don't find it as comfortable as Alden's leather soles, or even their commando—seems truly indestructible and is MUCH gripper in off-road conditions than I expected. And Alden's Trubalance last always delivers. I've started sizing my Indys and other Trubalance boots a bit "big" per their standard .5 sizes down from Brannock recommendation, but I absolutely love it. While it can feel a touch long at times, it's really no issue, and feels better (for me, at least) than a boot that's a little too snug. I love wearing these with mid-thick socks, feeling good and locked in, and just getting out there. One of my most comfortable boots, at true to size.

The Alden 405 is very comfortable. I typically walk about 2-3 miles per day and my feet feel fine at the end of the day when wearing these boots. The top of the quarters are close to touching when I lace the boots, but there is still about a 1 cm gap when tight.
