Simply too wide. Much too wide. I have low-volume feet and a particularly low instep, which is a terrible combination for these wonderful boots. It is unfortunate. I'll be selling them sometime very soon due to the poor fit for my feet.

John Lofgren Combat Boots in olive Chromexcel (CXL), purchased from Standard & Strange
Standard & Strange recommends going a full size down from Brannock. I went half-size down to 7, since it was the smallest they had in stock. The fit is good, but I have a feeling their recommended 6.5 would be better. On mine, cinched up, the facings come pretty close together along their lengths, pretty much touching at the top at my thinner ankles. Tightened up like this, the fit is quite good. Again, though, it's possible the recommended 6.5 would be more ideal. If I order another color in this pattern, I may try 6.5.

Timber CXL Combat Boots

My friend sent me the Timber CXL JL combat boots in size 9E (E width appears to be the standard width for this last, similar to the Viberg 2030) to review. Sizing advice I found on online retailers recommend a full size down however I find them to only run a half size large based on my visual assessment as well as wearing them around for about an hour. If I were to buy these, I would go a half size down and buy the 8.5 instead of the 8.

Perfect heel form, no rubbing or slip. Ball of the foot was too narrow at E width. Has stretched outward to accommodate my foot but the footbed falls slightly too narrow for the ball of my big toe where I can feel the edge. Leather is fantastic and rolls rather than creases. Shows scuffs well.
