Have to admit, this one isn't for me. Since I got this pair, they have seen very little use. Mostly because they fit too snugly. Also, being a big, wide guy, I feel like they look a bit weird. Too pointy. I don't know... I really haven't worn them enough to give a proper review. They look and feel solid, but I find them overall uncomfortable, mainly due to size. I wouldn't want to size up, as I feel like that would accentuate them looking strange in relation to my physical frame. Probably won't get another pair of Thursday's.

These came in and had no QC issues that I noticed. Very good budget option to get into the boot world. Some finishing details could have been improved, but overall I had no complaints about their condition upon arrival. Wear has been relatively minor, with scuffs causing an interesting highlight to the deep brown color of the leather. These are primarily worn in the office and for light outdoor use/walking. I like the fit across the middle and the ball of the foot, but the heel could be a bit more snug as I still have some slip and there is no rough internal counter material to hold the heel in place.

I have these in Thursday’s brown chrome leather with their version of a Dainite sole.
10/21
The fit on these is ok but just ok. I had to go down an extra half size to get something that would work with my C-width narrow foot. Even then, there’s extra volume, and my toes on my left foot are closer to the front of the shoe than I would prefer. That’s usually not a huge problem, but there are some circumstances (like walking downhill) when it’s noticeable.

This was my value buy, and I'm satisfied but not overjoyed. The leather quality just doesn't stack up to Grant Stone, Redwing, or Allen Edmonds. But they're as comfortable as running shoes, the thick lug soles will go anywhere, and ultimately they make it into my rotation fairly often.

Very comfortable boot from the outset. Now had a fair amount of use and the poron footbed is still comfortable. Thursday version of Danite sole is holding up well. Uppers crease quickly but the leather itself is tough. Great value for money.

A bit narrow in the toe box. When I first put them on the morning there's some squeezing at the ball of my foot which loosens up as I move around. Length is good, about 1/2 to 3/4 inch space past my big toe to the end of the boot.

Thursday Captain boots seem to have more of a sneaker fit and feel compared to traditional boots. Snug at a half size down but not tight. I would likely opt for brannock sizing if given the choice. Socks would make a big difference and is something to keep in mind.

Socks: Mid-cushion cotton Misc. Notes: Higher volume right foot Broken in as of early 6/22 Update 9/3/22: These boots are no longer a part of my collection. --- Update 7/23/22: These were a really easy break-in -- it only took maybe a day or two. They're more forgiving than the Diplomats, but they still run a little tight. It's generally fine, not super uncomfortable, but I tend to pass these over in favor of better-fitting boots. Even the Helm Zinds and Unmarked DB Hunters I own in a half-size too small are roomier. I may have to pass these along. --- Update 7/3/22: The review below is from before I learned my Brannock (or "true") size is actually 7.5D due to my arch length. Previously I was referencing Red Wing's Volumental measurements, which put me at a 6.1EE (which is based on my heel-to-toe length). I've kept the review largely as is because my experiences with this boot's fit and comfort are still relevant (even if the interpretations may be off), and I think it's a good illustration of how complicated, varied, and subjective fit can be. --- I really ranged the field of sizes for the Thursday Captain before I got my feet properly measured. Size 6 was comfortable enough out of the box, but after a 3-mile walk it proved to be too tight. Size 7 was a good, snug fit around my foot and didn't feel too long (though in retrospect I'm sure it is). Size 7.5 didn't even swallow my foot, but it was so long on me that it messed with my spatial awareness. Finally, AFTER I'd gotten properly measured, I ordered a 6 wide (labeled as EE/EEE) and 6.5 alongside each other. The 6 wide felt like it was made of a different, stiffer leather, even though it was roughly the same color and texture as the 6.5. It was also a bizarre mixture of too tight and too loose: the seam of the tongue pressed on the instep of both feet, but the vamp and toebox were really tall. The tongue also kept sliding down and bunching close to the seam as I walked. The width was pretty comfortable, though, close to being too roomy. In the end, I settled on the 6.5 because, even if it is tighter than I like, it's at least consistent. Besides, I knew from wearing the Thursday Diplomat in 6.5 for a couple of months that it wouldn't hurt me if I was mindful.

The fit of the Thursday Captain boot is snug on the sides at the start, while being a touch long for me. I went down a half size from my sneaker size. Initially this was fine but after breaking the boot in and really wearing it I needed to put an insole and wear thick socks to make it fit snug like before. The first few years of ownership I only wore the boot a few times through the year, but recently put it through its paces. The sole is holding up rather well and the leather is developing a very nice character to it. The creases are very fine and make it look quite nice. The major issue I am experiencing are in the overall fit and the durability of the glued on insole. The fit while a perfect snug when I first purchased due to the boot running rather slim has broken in to fit my foot rather loosely when wearing. The foam insole that they have glued in has compressed completely and begun to peel in this time as well. This was solved with a pair of leather insoles and thicker socks. Overall I still recommend the boot, for its price it is very comfortable and holds up rather nicely. I have had QC concerns with my order before but Thursday has been very quick to address them and easy to deal with.

This was the first "real" boot I ever bought. These boots made me realize how wide my foot actually is. The boot is too narrow for my foot, but that is not the manufacturer's fault. Overall, the construction and leather is fine. They were a good entry-level boot that taught me an important lesson: know your foot. If Thursday ever makes a EEE width, I will buy one immediately!

Dark Olive WeatherSafe™ Suede. Goodyear Welt Construction. Fully Lined with Glove Leather Interior. Poron® Antimicrobial Shock Absorbing Insoles. Cork-Bed Midsoles. Studded Rubber Outsoles.
03/22
One of the most comfortable boots I own. The Dark Olive WeatherSafe™ Suede is soft to wear and very tough for the daly challenges of my working day. I have to stand up most of my day, so the Captain boots represent a relief for my feet. The studded rubber outsoles work very nice in the streets and the classroom. The cork-bed Midsoles formed nicely to my feet, and the Poron Antimicrobial Shock Absorbing Insoles offered no break in period whatsoever. This last component of the boots is probably the most critized by heritage boots purists, but man let me tell you that when I am walking and standing the while day, I sure appreciate the cushiness of this synthetic material 😅. These boots also come with a supple glove leather interior that gives a redined feel to it. Overall, excellent boot for the price point. In fact, I think you get a very nice heritage, well made, beautiful and comfortable boot for less than $200, it's a no brainer. If this is important to you, at least for me it is, these boots are made with integrity in México, in a factory that cares for their workers, use premium leathers and take the environment into account. I had a QC issue with my first order. The customer service team responded inmediateley, no questions asked. They sent me a new pair in perfect condition. This is important, because I am buying from an online, direct to consumer company, and I need to be sure they have my back, which they do. Since the first Captain, I have got a pair of Diplomats, and two other boots for my wife. We are very happy.

Easy fit. After break in a little loose and very long. I should have dropped to 10 wide. I’m so used to size 11 just to fit my wide feet that I just go with extra long shoes. I now know my GYW’d boots should be 9.5 EEE if sold in the US.

The fit is very good with plenty of room in the toes. The width is perfect. Grayle wouldn't let me use my volumental sizing which is 7.7 on left foot and 7.6 on right foot. The leather is nice and aromatic. The leather board on the midsole of the left boot heel has flaked off some and it's white underneath. Not a huge deal. There was no break-in and no blisters or hot spots. I'd rather pay a bit more for a full leather midsole.
