A standard half down from brannock is what I would recommend for this boot! I owned one other pair of wolverines which I've since sold and a half down was also good advice. Same as RW sizing.

The fit is good, my ball aligns with the widest part of the boot, but there is quite a bit extra space from my toe to the end of the boot.

Materials are great. I have yet to have a problem with any of the 12 pairs of 1000 mile boots.

I have 12 pairs of 1000 mile boots because they fit my foot very well. I wear a size 12 sneaker and I sized down to an 11D and they are literally perfect for my foot.

I wear these with orthotics with enough room, they are light duty boots, and as such are very easy to break in. Most of my boots get the same care...initial Obanaufs then Bick 4 every year unless dried out, then more often. Dry brush when necessary.

Mine is the Axel boot, it comes with a vibram v100 sole, and Charles F. Stead leather from the "best tannery in England". My color is grey rough out, and man it is a nice piece of leather! So soft with the first wear.

Horween pull up leather, very thin and slick leather sole, no arch support to speak of. Kind of insubstantial boot.

The Cap-Toe Classic boot has the timeless silhouette of 1000 Mile with the addition of a double-needle stitched cap-toe design detail for classic work-inspired style. Its full-grain Chromexcel leather from the famous Horween tannery in Chicago has a deep, rich color with a light pull-up that delivers superior comfort and durability, and gains character with wear. Goodyear™ Welt construction is utilized and allows the boot to be re-soled for many years of wear.

I have the Waxy Mohawk CF Stead version Wonderful leather, fit is okay, not much arch support... I have only worn twice, I suspect they may be a tad loose with medium socks when broken in...... I tried 8D but they were definately too narrow and too short.. Leather sole is a single sole, aesthically would look better with thicker soles, so I am having Dr Soles half soles added

Very good length and width, even at 10 D. The width at my toes is essentially the same as the width at the ball of my feet, and these boots fit well, even at the D width. To me, the boots also provide very good arch support. I would not pay full price, but I would buy a new pair at a 30% discount. These boots are surprising comfortable out of the box. In my opinion, the fiberboard footbed and leather outsole make this a very comfortable boot, even brand new.

The boots fit good. I little roomy at the toe box which adds to the comfort, IMO. My heel feels secured, and the arch support is not the best. This boot feature leather outsole - the same way it was in 1914 - with a Vibram® heel. The soles look really Nice and give enough flexibility to the wear. I didn't need a break in period with these boots, I think the leather sole has a lot to do with it. The upper is made out of premium leather from Chicago’s famed Horween Leather Company. It is sturdy and has a nice creasing right where it needs to be. I am not sure if this is Chromexcel, but it definetely doesn't feel like the leather from my Viberg Service boots or my Alden Indy 403, that's CXL. Taking care of these boots is easy! I use Venetian Shoe Cream every 10 wears, and they are getting a nice patina already I will definetely buy other colors and soles, so stay tuned to see how that goes 😉.

Socks: Midweight merino wool Misc. Notes: Higher volume right foot Broken in as of late 7/22 Update 7/22/22: I took out the heel liners and the fit was actually really good, with the right amount of heel slip and my feet ending aligned pretty perfectly. These are COMFY, probably in the top three comfiest boots I own. They ended up being fully broken in within just one or two days of wearing them all day around the house. I can walk for miles in them no problem. Not a single blister. The comfort of the sock liners goes away pretty quick, though, unfortunately. Also, I think the heels aren't quite balanced correctly: when I'm standing there's a lot of pressure right on the front edge of the heel and it ends up splitting the heel stack from the rest of the sole a little. It doesn't happen while walking, just standing. I'm not sure if it's a design issue, a QC issue, or a stance issue. --- Update 7/3/22: The review below is from before I learned my Brannock (or "true") size is actually 7.5D due to my arch length. Previously I was referencing Red Wing's Volumental measurements, which put me at a 6.1EE (which is based on my heel-to-toe length). I've kept the review largely as is because my experiences with this boot's fit and comfort are still relevant (even if the interpretations may be off), and I think it's a good illustration of how complicated, varied, and subjective fit can be. --- This fits like pretty much all my other 7D boots: width is perfect, length is far from. Nothing super exceptional there except there's more room in the instep and toe box than Helm's Zinds and Thursday's Vanguards. Not a surprise, these boots aren't as low profile. Once again, the flex point ended up in the right spot (right where the toes and foot meet) without heel liners, but the widest part of my foot ended up being aligned better in the widest part of the boot with the heel liners. No back-and-forth or side-to-side slippage either way. Comfort, I think, is where the 1000 Miles stand out: the sock liner on the insole is really cushy and the uppers are probably the softest and most supple leather of any boots I own so far, including the ones I've worn for a while. I don't expect there to be much of a break-in period. Speaking of the leather, it's absolutely gorgeous. I got it with an eye towards how it's going to look years down the line. You can see hints of it in direct sunlight -- I think my pictures captured that pretty well.

They are my most comfortable pair boots I own. The toe shape seems like it was made for me. Probably why I can comfortable fit in a size 11D and my brannock size is 12D. They broke in very quickly. I have heel spurs on both feet and the Horween leather has formed around them nicely. My only complaint is throughout the day I’ll have to pull my socks up s they bunch at the base of my heel. I’ll pull them up 3-4 times a day or after walking at least 1/4 mile or so. Nothing major but worth mentioning. This happened on the three different types/brands of socks I’ve tried. I wear them to work mostly which is in an office environment 4 days a week. I do however live about a mile from work and try to walk at least 3 days a week when the weather permits. I care for them using Sapphire Everest every couple months. It leaves a nice shine.
